| Tuesday, August 19, 2003 Celebrating the Life and Death of the CMM, by Dr. Herb Krasner, University of Texas Overview: The Capability Maturity Model for Software (CMM or SW-CMM) is a model for judging the maturity of the software processes of an organization and for identifying the key practices that are required to increase the maturity of these processes About the Speaker: Herb Krasner is a senior faculty member at the University of Texas at Austin, and the Director of the Software Engineering Industry Affiliates Program. He is also a software excellence management consultant. His mission, spanning several decades, has been to enable the development of superior software, and to stamp out poor quality software, wherever found. As a coach, mentor and/or troubleshooter, he has helped many organizations become more effective producers of superior software products and information systems. He is best known for his leading edge work on modeling the costs of software quality, reporting the ROI data for software process improvement, coaching organizational improvement programs and reporting the results from his empirical studies of professional programmers. He has published over 55 papers, articles and book sections, and has spoken at many professional conferences and meetings. Over his 32 year career in computing, he has held positions as: President, Division Manager, Chief Technical Officer, Project Leader, Chief Software Engineer, Senior Technologist, Assistant Professor of Computer Science, and Systems Architect. At the University of Texas at Austin, he teaches classes and does research in software engineering best practices, and is responsible for creating an industrial affiliates program for the new software engineering research center. He is the Founder and active participant in the UT Software Quality Institute, and Founder of the Austin SPIN. |
